Hearsegal, I just want to thank you for adding all the haunts to the Virginia section.   Let's hope it helps some people find a few haunts this season!

Oh your welcome, I just figured since I live in Va that I add the ones that I know of... and am thinking about going to this year, last year we went to Howl O Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and even though I would love to go back this year my time schedule just doesn't have enough time in it this year to travel there it's about 2 and half hours from me. So I'm gonna check out the local ones near me which are the 2 or 3 events i've listed.... I would love to check out spookywoods and Woods of terror and Hacker house but heh if I can't make time for Williamsburg then I definately know I can't make time to travel to my most favorite state lol! I would love to live anywhere in North Carolina it's just a beautiful state anyways thanks!

"Scream Forest is an intense walking adventure. We put you on a wagon...take you out in the woods...leave you...on foot with nothing between you and the creatures of the night...where no one cares if you Scream!"
- I like this concept - I think idea of being trapped out in the woods makes it a little creepier - if they keep it dark enough, you might actually feel like you're out there alone - i would like to see if they do.

Admission is $13 per body for the Creepy Hollow Hayride. Save $6 when you visit both Creepy Hollow Hayride and Scream Forest with the coupon available on the website and at Fasmart and Little Caesars stores. The Creepy Hollow Hayride/Scream Forest Combo Pass is $22 ($20 with coupon)

Hmm, that is an interesting concept.  I wonder the same thing, how "out there" do you feel?  If it was literally like dumping you in the middle of nowhere with a path to follow, that would rock.  I'm sure that would creep the bejeebus out of some people.

I've always thought, just being dropped off would be cool too. I get creeped out in my own woods at night.

I think a lot about haunted attractions and what's scary and what's not and if I had my own, what would I do?  I haven't been on any haunted outdoor trails in the woods, but I imagine they create scenes every so often, and scare people with props and actors. I think most of the trail being scaled down would be more scary. I might play more on their sense of sound with weird noises, or hearing noises that they couldn't see. I'm all for props and scene setting, but I think if you add too much, you would lose out on the natural, scary atmosphere.

Towards the end, I'd like to come around a bend in the woods and see something that would draw me in, something for me to focus my attention on, then, when I look up, be surrounded by something - monsters, ghouls, scary redneck people, i don't know. Most scenes are comprised of 1,2 or 3 people, but I think it would be scary to suddenly feel surrounded (by 10 or so people), with no place to go and no one to hear your screams.

I think one of those haunted trail places should grant a winner a night to camp somewhere in their woods. I think that would scare some people more than being in a house, because you have no walls or roof to protect you. Just maybe a tent. I can just imagine the rules being that you have to stay in the tent for the first couple hours after dark. Hearing footsteps around your tent, strange noises, maybe a scratch sound on your tent walls.   They could really scare some people easily.

Handfulofrubies, I like the way you think.  I've always wanted to camp out in a real haunted house, or even a graveyard.  I know, that's a bit morbid, but it's just the idea.  But to camp out in a haunted forest, that would be sweet.  I moved down here from PA and we had all kinds of haunted houses and haunted trails.  Some were professional, and some were done by local groups and businesses, but they were all fun.  Down here it seems like a few of the bigger ones hold a monopoly, but I've seen a few smaller ones popping up over the last few years.  Don't get me wrong, I love the huge haunts, but sometimes a hokey little haunt is fun, too.

yea, Scream Forrest is "supposed" to be the best haunted attraction in VA from what I've heard. More than likely, this place will be one of my 6 trips this season. (Unless I win the Monster tour) *cough cough*  lol

We were near here tonight and because of the rain, this was closed.  So if you are traveling to get there, keep that in mind!

This is very near Blood Lake, probably a couple of miles, so if you make the trip do both!!
