Frightseeking Since 2007

« on: October 01, 2008, 09:01:55 AM »

I am on the east side of Charlotte(28227 to be exact) and I am going to go to all of the featured haunts this season, and I want to go to some of the area haunts. I have started planning out my trips and stuff but I am having some issues, the only haunts I have ever been to are nightmare on independence, haunted mill, campground massacre, Dr evils haunted house, and scarowinds. I have never been to hacker house which is 2 hours away, and I do not know what haunts are within driving distance of there. I am going to go to a haunt every Friday and Saturday until the season is over. So since a lot of you are all over NC help me plan my trips, like if I am going to go to Spookywoods tell me what is near spookywoods as well. If I go to hacker house whats near there? And so on and so on.
*****Also if you guys need any help planning a trip to some of the haunts on my side of the woods, let me know and I will assist you in every way possible****
Thank you again Frightseekers!! Any support is better then no support!!

Gas is hard to come by, so lets hope we can make the most out of this 2008 season!

Slappy got a big state map and marked out where each haunt is located, so we could coordinate which ones we want to go to and when.  Try doing that, it'll help a lot.

I got it I looked up every location on Google maps, only problem is it makes some of the haunts look close, but in actuality they are like an hour away from each other...So I am hoping to get some human feedback and then plan each trip accordingly.
Woods of Terror on Church Street
X-Treme Fear
Both located close to each other so I know I can do these both in one night, but question is are there any other haunts like this?
I noticed some haunts in the Gastonia area, haunted mill is in Belmont which is right near Gastonia but has any one ever ventured to these haunts and have like travel tips?
I hope I am making sense, if not someone let me know Smiley

If your going to Woods of Terror, you could probably check out Sppokywoods as well.... they are like 15 miles apart I do believe. When I was a teen me and couple of friends where gonna go to WOT and SW.... I remember being booked at a hotel that was like in the middle of both of them. What's sad is it rained that whole weekend and I was living in Lynchburg VA which is approx. 3 hours away or so away from Greensboro so we decided not to go... I've never been to these two and really wanna go bad! But so far traveling and gas have been an issue. But if your going to these two they aren't that far apart or that's just my opinion Smiley

I'll be honest, WOT and Spookywoods are probably impossible in the same night UNLESS you do the special tickets where you don't have to wait in light.  Otherwise I guarantee you'll spend over an hour in line at each one, plus each haunt takes about an hour to get through.  So you'd be getting to the second haunt pretty late unless you happen to be first in line at the first haunt.

I did WOT and Extreme Fear in the same night last year with no problem.  I hope to do Midway Wicked Woods and Camp Fear on the same night.  I'd also like to do Nightmare on Independence and The Haunted Mill in the same night, if possible.  I know there's a bit of a distance between them, but I think it's do-able.  I also plan to do Haunted Pyramids and BarH in the same night, if possible.  They don't look to be too far apart.  As far as Hacker House and Spooky Woods, I plan to do them each on a Friday night.  As they are my 2 favorite haunts so far, I like to make a night of each haunt, and spend some time watching the reaction of other haunts-goers.  And then I'll have to throw Campground Massacre either on a Saturday, or I'll do it the Saturday after Halloween night.

Karmakrazy13,
Distance (and time) wise, the easiest way to go from Charlotte to Hacker House is via I-85 to Hwy-52. Online maps say that I-77 is faster, and it is, but the trick is to get off I-77 at Hwy-89 towards Mt Airy, then take I-74 South about a 1/2 mile down Hwy 89 (which becomes Hwy-52 north of Pilot Mountain). If you go all the way up to I-74 from I-77, it'll add a 1/2 hour. Check Google Maps for details.
Charlotte to Spookywoods is a straight shot up I-85 to the Hwy 62 (Climax) exit.  Easy on & off.
From Charlotte (or Spookywoods) to X-Treme Fear & Woods of Terror, its I-85 (business) north to Hwy 29, then exit at W. Cone Blvd. (watch it, its the 2nd exit onto Cone!).  They're very close to each other, X-Treme Fear is a right on Yanceyville Rd. and the next right is Woods of Terror on Church St.
Midway Wicked Woods is up I-77 to Statesville, then I-40 east (a few miles) at Midway Campground.
It is possible to do Spookywoods & Woods of Terror & X-Treme Fear in the same night. But only the haunt tours themselves, and only on a Friday early in the season (ie, next two weekends).  They all get pretty busy later in the season.  You have to arrive very early in the evening at Spookywoods (they have timed ticketing now for most tickets, so early arrival with a general admission ticket  is best).  Go through, then go straight to Woods of Terror.  If you go this weekend, it'll be very possible to tour X-Treme Fear as well.  It can be done, but it wont be a 'laid-back' trip, and you won't be able to enjoy any of the extras the events offer.  btw - you can also see Disneyworld in a day too, but that's a post for another forum....  ;-)

Here's a few groupings for nightly trips to consider from Charlotte:
Spookywoods, Woods of Terror, X-Treme Fear (above routes - also check Google Maps)
Midway Wicked Woods and Hacker House (using I-77 for the trip)
Campground Massacre (I-77 to Fort Mill), Haunted Mill, Nightmare on Independence
Haunted Pyramids, BarH, Camp Fear  (check Google Maps for routes)

If you're *really* up for marathon running, doing all of these in the first two weeks of October is recommended.
In the last two weekends for most any of the Featured Haunts, plan for an hour wait in line, unless you 'upgrade' to a Fast Pass, if they offer one.

Assuming that you would like to stop by Mountain of Terror this year, we are just a little ways down the road from Spookywoods.  And it is very common for people to hit SpookyWoods and then swing by and see us, or visa versa.  Beings we are so close to each other, we try to get our customers to go over and see Tony and his guys as often as possible and he does the same for us.  But those are two that I am aware that are close to one another and very do able in one night, if you get out early.

I think I'm going to do Spooky Woods and Mountain of Terror in the same night.  I'm just too intrigued by MoT to miss it.  But there's some good suggestions for you Karma, hopefully you can figure out a plan to hit as many haunts as possible.

Don't feel left out!  I love haunts, but the biggest reason I'm going to hit all the featured haunts this year is to help out NCHaunts and Frightseekers (and I just want to see them all!).  I hope with good participation and good, honest reviews, NCHaunts and Frightseekers will continue to grow.  We've gained over 200 new members this season, and 3 new featured haunts, as well as some new haunts in the local section that sound awesome.

Bringing back this topic for the 09 season.
Last year I was able to group haunts together, here is the result.
Easy haunts to do in the same night:
Spookywoods and Mountain Of Terror.
Woods Of Terror/Extreme Fear
Midway Wicked Woods/Camp Fear
Haunted Pyramids & BarH
Campground Massacre/Haunted Mill/DR Evil's Haunted attraction

I did Hacker house by itself the night I went. Castle of horror is new, can that be done with any other haunts?

Going to try and do Midway Wicked Woods and Camp Fear combo this weekend.

Looking into a Castle of Horror  and Nightmare on Scales Street combo later in the season (both in Reidsville IIRC).

Castle of Horror and Xtreme Fear worked out well for me last year. I don't know how long Woods of Terror takes as I haven't been in a long time, but those 2 by themselves are very doable.
