Hello, fellow Frightseekers! I need your help! Buttons0577 and I get together every year with a group of girls and go to a haunted house, just us girls! It's our annual "Ghoul's Night Out" and this year, we have yet to pick a haunt. We all live around the Charlotte area. We try to pick a haunt we haven't been to yet (last year was the Haunted Corn Maze in Concord, year before that was Spookywoods, before that - Spencer Mountain). Besides the ones listed on this site, what are some other good haunts that are within about an hour from the Charlotte area? Maybe some smaller local haunts that aren't advertised heavily? We have a couple that we can choose from already, but we want several so that we can make a good choice! We are planning on going the first weekend in October.
Thanks for your help! src7795

I know Woods of Terror is on the list and I think Hacker House is on there. Is the Fright Village going to be around this year?

Other than the haunts listed on NCHaunts, I would also recommend Mountain of Terror in Asheboro. But let me ask you a question. What do you look for in a haunted house? Do you want a big, flashy show that's not so scary, or do you want a good scare? That would help in deciding what haunt(s) I would recommend.

there is always Scarowinds. They have lots of haunts. Plus, this year is the ten year anniversary so they added new attractions and it is supposed to to be way better due to new management. Just saying because my family has season passes.

Go for the IN YOUR FACE, pee in your pants, and having to run to the parking lot scares!

The scarier, the better! We like the 'in your face' scares. Oh, and Buttons0577 loves a good chainsaw! (Don't get in her way when one's chasing her, though - friend or not, she'll mow you down!!! I speak from experience! ) The way "Ghoul's Night Out" started, one year the two of us thought we were brave enough to go through a haunted house by ourselves, and that's exactly what we did! We got there pretty early, and we were going to wait on another group to go through with them, but when none showed up, we decided to just go for it - and it was just the two of us! They radioed our names down through the trail and the "monsters" kept calling our names. We had such a great time, we decided to take a bigger group the next time and make it an annual deal. We went to Spookywoods year before last and it was great! We visited the Haunted Corn Maze in Albemarle last year, and it was good too. We have a bigger group this year (it will end up being around 12-15 girls) and we can't wait!!! Happy haunting! src7795

Hacker house is highly recommended in my book, it is a must do haunt because it is such a unique experience. X-Treme Fear is also a haunt I highly recommend, it is one I will visit each and every season.
Scarowinds is a good attraction, and it is the 10TH anniversary so they will be doing it bigger, and better this season.
Take a look at the haunt reviews from last season, and then take a look at the haunts websites. I highly recommend you guys check out Hacker House, or X-Treme Fear.

I gotta agree with Karma. If you want in-your-face scares, with dedicated, enthusiastic actors, Hacker House is it. Xtreme fear is also an amazing haunt, and neither one will break the bank. But it all depends on where you want to go, too. Hacker House is farther north than any of the other haunts, Xtreme Fear is out in Greensboro, and extremely close to Woods of Terror. But affording both of those in the same night is more than most people want to pay. If you head out west from you, you can hit Haunted Pyramids or BarH, but as I've never been to either of those, I can't give an honest opinion. If you head north and west, you can hit Midway Wicked Woods, which is always fun. I am a bit biased, so understand that. But we'd LOVE to see you at Hacker House this year. Just do yourself a favor, post where you're going a when, I can always put in a good word for your group...

Good news!!! We have decided to go to the Campground Massacre in Fort Mill this year! It's only about 40-45 minutes away from where the group is meeting. We are looking forward to it!
Happy haunting!!! src7795

You'll like Campground Massacre. And like Admin said, there's a lot to see there. Don't let yourself get pushed through too fast, take your time and enjoy the sets and props.
