I can hardly believe I have been doing this crazy haunt biz for 25 years!  Haunted houses seem to come and go and we have been fortunate enough to withstand the bad times and improve our event over the many years.

We run Kersey Valley, Inc as a business 100%.  I want to educate the fright seekers a bit on the business side of haunting.  There is no such thing as a volunteer in a for profit business in NC, everyone is paid by the hour and is covered by worksmens compensation insurance.  There are permits, payroll liabilities, insurance, taxes, amusement tax, worksmen compensation and the list goes on and on.  When I see these other haunted events pop up with no permits, no insurance and all volunteer labor it just makes for unfair competition.

If you love haunted houses, support the ones that are legit and report to your local fire marshall or building permit office the ones that pop up right before October.  How to know if a haunt is legit, if you see underage kids working in the haunt, plastic or other flamable materials, unsafe walking areas, electrical wires exposed, no permits posted are some sure fire clues.

Thanks for being a fright seeker and spread the word about your favorite haunt!
