Last night a few of us went out to eat & stopped in the local Party City afterwards. While looking at the products in the back of the store, I saw a small girl "about 7 yrs old I guess" put on a mask & try to scare her mother. This was one of those "real life" moments for me because I realized that the feeling that little girl was having is the exact same one I STILL have after 29 yrs of being involved in the haunted house industry. If you ever had it you know what I talking about! I also realized that Halloween is a special time of year that brings out some fun, in a world full of depression, poverty, Wars, & everything else going on these days. There is something special about putting on a costume & becoming someone else for a little while, someone who doesn't have your problems, someone who is living in the moment to scare someone else & have some fun. I thought a few of you could relate... I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!

That was deep slaughter! It truly is a wonderful feeling to walk in some chain store and see the halloween merch already on shelves!

Slaughtermail, I'm impressed.  That is the exact way I feel around Halloween.  I'm already excited, and something I wonder if there's something wrong with me.  Then I get on here, or go to a haunted house or a costume shop, and I realize there are a lot of other people that feel the same way.  I know a lot of people get excited around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, and so do I.  But we all know the reason we get so worked up around Halloween.  It's just...fun.  Either you're the person behind the mask, escaping your life for a while, or your the person getting the scare, and you're still escaping life for a while.  You're in a mindset that you know you're going to be scared, but you don't know what to expect, and it really does get the adrenaline going.   Grin

glad to know that there are like minds out there.  People are already commenting i'm 'crazy' for talking about Halloween this early, but i wouldn't have it any other way. To me its normal and all the other people are crazy.  I go to bed at night thinking about my yard haunt and what props I still need to make, and I'm buying decorations for a Halloween party that hasn't even been planned (except in my head.)

My sentiments exactly!  Halloween is the one celebration where just putting a sheet over your head can make all the difference in your world.

Yeah Halloween isn't really a holiday to me, it's a part of my life. I mean this IS my Christmas, and every day I wake up knowing I'm going to a haunt that night is like waking up on Christmas morning.

Me too, Slappy. There is a HUGE number of people that feel the same way we do. It makes me feel good inside to see people putting on the mask / costumes, & joking around in the stores this early. I tell everyone that comes to our place that we are just a bunch of haunted house fans that put on a haunt like one we would want to go to, within insurance guidelines of course.... but bottom line is we ALL love it through & through.

I am the same way! I can't wait to take my husband to Morris costume this year. I love going in stores and seeing the halloween candies, and makeup. It just sets the tone for this time of year.
