Acherontia atropos

« on: September 20, 2010, 02:13:46 PM »

My husband & I were daydreaming today in a "Wouldn't it be cool if..." scenario, and we dreamed up a Haunted House with a Scavenger Hunt.  A full haunt production complete with props and actors and scary noise and dim setting, but add an extra layer by offering a 6 item or a 13 item scavenger hunt while going through.  Nothing too involved or elaborate, simple clues, that require you to interact with the room's environment.  We took it deep to, detailing all the different rooms and clue situations. Each group would get:  one backpack, one glowstick, a list of clues/items to collect.  Prize at the end still TBD, hypothetically  Wink.

Can you imagine, trying to focus on a clue AND actually locating the item, while constantly getting berated with the horrors of a haunted house?  I think it would be awesome!!  A sensory overload.

What do you think fellow FrightSeekers?  Sound like something you would participate in?  Or a total thumbs down?

this sounds really neat, i would deff love to go to this sort of haunted house, i love doing scavenger hunts! it's a great idea.
you just have to constantly be fully aware of your surroundings before "they" sneak up on you! which would happen to me, even if i was watching! hahh  Cheesy

It would definitely make the experience more interactive, which is what I've been researching/looking for over the past year.

Its interesting what some attractions are doing to add a gaming element to their haunt-

the dangerrun site sounds scary as hell.  i would do it in a flat minute, but at the same time, i would freak out and convince myself that I am dead in the middle of texas chainsaw massacre.  thanks for sharing, i'll be passing this one along.  i feel a road trip in my future...

A good idea, but I see one major flaw.  How would you get people through in a timely manner?  I know all haunt owners would love to have every guest that goes through to notice every single prop, actor and nuance, but it's not financially possible.  You'd only get a small amount of people through every night.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea.  I've always said I'd like haunts to be more interactive, but it's something that's actually very hard to pull off.  How many people do you think would just lose it from being scared and completely give up on the scavenger hunt?

My big question is...what would they look for?  And would they have to do certain things to obtain said items, or just find them?  Would it be a pure scavenger hunt, or would you include riddles and puzzles?  Make people work for the items?

Yea Slappy,  there would not br enought time to do something like that for every group that goes through..... However is sounds like something that could be a good.....  "Fight Seekers fright night" for fright seekers only, it's  something that might  have to be set up after halloween. Maybe in the off season, if we only knew someone who owned a haunt & would be open to the idea....................

our thought process put the "timely manner" issue on a back burner, temporarily.  we were thinking along the lines of having a bottomless money-pit...lol.  you know, when you have an idea, you create a concept as if all were in perfect world order, then tame it down to a reality situation.

oh, there is no doubt some folks wouldn't be able to handle it, but like most haunts it's enter at your own risk.

the concept would have to be very simple, as in each room has a black box (or whatever storage container is used must be consistent).  your goal is to find said black box, reach inside and retrieve the scavenger "item" (we were thinking a femur bone, a squishy eyeball, vampire teeth, a key, etc.) - to find said box, you would have to decipher a directional clue.  nothing to mull over for 5 minutes or more, clues would have to be quick-answer types.

for example, say you are in the kitchen of a haunt, your clue would be, (this is a mere rough draft-no laughing-lol) "witches brew simmers nearby, but it's still missing an eye, look near the pot, it's not very hot, stick your hand in-but don't contract a stye"...the set up would be pots of gross soup-like stuff on the stove and next to this stove would be a black box with a hole in the top, where your item is located.  when said person attempts to obtain the "eye" a hand pops up from a pot or something comes out from under a table & catches them off guard.

things like this...i know you are laughing at my rhyme...i am  Tongue

This is a cool concept, that alot could be done with. I don't think it's for an every group thing, but we are always looking for new ideas to expand our haunt, we already have a couple ideas we were working on for the off season, but I see this could have alot of potential.
I think there should also be some choices to make, like more than one box or door to open , with consequences that if you made the wrong choice, you be stuck in a room of a while or go back to the start, or give up some of your items you have already collected. I think it would be kinda like a "who did it" dinner.
Very interesting. we'll have to talk more about this after the season.

See there...you are twisted, just like my husband & myself...we took it to that level also.  we even created a consequence scenario where you loose your light and have to be separated from your group.  ohhhhhh, i love getting out there with my dark imagination.  but that part of our thought process took into consideration that the masses may not be up for such hard core antics. we had some terrifying ideas for group torture...ha, ha, ha  Roll Eyes
